Committee Hearing - July 10th - 1pm

Come see the Senate Health Committee meet and vote on bills pertaining to public, mental, and physical health systems in California. Each bill is presented by the Author, then witnesses speak in favor and opposition, and then the committee members are allowed to ask questions and make statements in support or opposition about the bill.

During this portion, you will see how bills are divided up into different committees depending on their content. On this day, you will hear more bills pertaining to our field; however, you could go at any time to hear different categories as well. If you are feeling up to it, you can advocate on this day and make your voice heard by simply walking up to a microphone to state your name (for the record) and whether you support or oppose a particular bill. It is one of the easiest ways to advocate for something you feel strongly about.

Floor Session - September 12 - 9:30am

Come see the State Assembly and State Senate meet to debate and vote on legislation in a fast-paced atmosphere. Assemblymembers and Senators offer a speech about each bill, and their colleagues have the opportunity to ask questions, make statements in support or opposition, and then vote on the bills.

This is an opportunity for you to see your hard work in action and a bill one step closer to becoming state law. You will gain experience in understanding how these two entities work together to bring about change.

Each session will last for no more than 60 - 90 minutes and the SVPA group will meet after to debrief.
